MINISTER JUDEH STRESSES JORDAN’S COMMITMENT TO PROTECTING CULTURAL HERITAGE
AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Nasser Judeh, stressed Jordan’s commitment to continue efforts to preserve cultural heritage at all levels in cooperation with concerned international parties.
Judeh’s remarks came at the opening of the second Ministerial regional “Culture Under Threat” Conference which kicked off on Thursday in the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Sumayya Bint Al Hassan, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Jordan National Museum.
The minister pointed to the challenges facing the region and its cultural heritage due to the criminal and terrorist gangs that try to sow sedition and hatred in the region and the world.
He said preserving international humanitarian heritage is a collective responsibility and that addressing this challenge requires concerted regional and international efforts.
“Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II has played a major role to preserve cultural heritage, pointing to the Hashemites role in preserving Arab heritage in Jerusalem as well as Islamic and Christian holy sites.
The conference aims to advance cooperation between Arab countries in the fight against the illegal smuggling and sale of cultural artifacts from the region.
The event, which is organized by the Foreign Ministry in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Antiquities Coalition, and Middle East Institute (MEI), will bring together ministers from 17 Arab League nations.
